rebellion and riot grrl and self-love
I wanted to make my first post about myself, to give a little bit of a background on my mission with my boudoir photography!
Revolution Girl Style Now!
First, I have to explain why the ideas of rebellion and revolution are woven into my brand, my identity, and every photo I take.
I grew up inspired by the Riot Grrl movement of the 90s - a female-forward punk rock subculture dedicated to giving women the power to take up their own space. As a lifelong musician (and current punk band member!), these artists and those they inspired taught me to be myself and to be a rebel.
But the most important thing I took away from those days of listening to powerful, queer-positive, girly punk rock in my bedroom was an ethos: manifesting your beliefs through your energy. That attitude is the core of my photography.
why boudoir?
I actually stumbled into boudoir by accident. I was an event photographer when the world locked down, and suddenly... no more events. I pivoted into high-end retouching for boudoir studios and immediately fell in love.
I loved being part of the process that made someone look at a photo and think, "Damn, I look hot." I realized how vital that spark of self-confidence is, especially for women of all shapes and ages, the LGBTQ2S+ community, the BIPOC community, and anyone who feels they don’t fit the "standard" of what is considered beautiful.
After years of retouching other people's work, I knew it was time to get behind the lens myself. I wanted to carry this mission through from the first click of the shutter to the final print.
Self-love is act of rebellion.
In a world that constantly tells you that you aren't "enough," loving yourself is a radical act. We are bombarded with messages that there is always something to fix or an unobtainable ideal to reach. Even with the progress we’ve made, those pressures are still baked into the media we consume every day.
My goal is to break that down. My studio isn't a factory for "cookie-cutter" perfection; it’s a space for celebrating who you are right now. I believe our beauty lies in our authenticity, our flaws, and our uniqueness. And I want to be a part of celebrating that.
Everyone belongs here.
You don’t have to be a music nerd like me or know a single thing about punk rock to belong in front of my camera. These ideas are for everyone. My inspirations are rooted in inclusivity. No matter your background, your style, or your story, you belong here.
You are sexy, gorgeous, and powerful exactly as you are. You might not even know it yet, but I can’t wait to show you.
P.S. If you are curious about the Riot Grrl sound, let me know - I’d love to make you a playlist!
